Hello, Lovelies!
I read the book The Catcher in the Rye a few summers ago and it has since been one of my all-time favorite books. I find the story to be very real and raw, but also portrays a very complex character in a very un-complex way. It's this simplicity that J.D. Salinger writes with that makes the story so enjoyable. It is more relatable that way. I like the way you fall in love with this character based on his honesty and blatant thoughts. I wish more people in the world were this way. They;re all so hard to figure out. But not Holden. His simple sincerity makes the reader fall completely in love with him. J.D. Salinger's writing style is one of my favorites and I hope to read more of his works in the future. To finish up my little thought, I'm going to add a couple of my favorite quotes from the book. Hope you enjoy.
"She wasn't doing a thing that I could see, except standing there, leaning on the balcony railing, holding the universe together."
"Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody."
"Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around - nobody big, I mean - except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have do to, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff - I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be."
"I can't explain what I mean. And even if I could, I'm not sure I'd feel like it."
"I don't even know what I was running for - I guess I just felt like it."
All my love,
Hailey
